ABOUT MADDIE BOUDOV
Hey, I’m Maddie. I grew up in Los Angeles, California, and started acting at age 4 and it stuck. 18 years later I am still acting, but now based in Brooklyn, New York. This past December I graduated from Tisch Drama with a BFA in Drama from the Experimental Theatre Wing where I trained for 3.5 years. I love being a part of the creation of original work. Whether that’s devising, designing, acting in, writing, or directing, bringing a new vision to life is my favorite part of being an artist.
I am very involved in social activism including disability rights, women’s rights, environmental justice, and expanding access to education and I love bringing that passion into my work. I believe art is a powerful tool for social change and the driving force behind my work.
I identify as a disabled actor. I am completely deaf in my right ear after suffering from idiopathic sudden hearing loss at age 10 and am now hard of hearing. I also experienced debilitating chronic pain for 3 years at the end of high school and got back surgery at age 18 to improve my chronic pain and I have been in remission ever since. I strongly believe that representation matters, especially in the context of disability. There is so much stigma around physical disability and erasure around invisible disabilities such as deafness, that seeing disabled artists tell their authentic stories is something I am very passionate about. With that, I strive to make my artistic spaces as accessible as possible for the widest variety of people, because the performing arts should be for everyone.
Beyond acting, I am a dancer, a singer, a director, a writer, and a costume designer. I have been dancing since age 11 and singing since age 6. I also love choreographing dance, especially in collaboration with other dancers. About a year ago I started costume designing for theater and film and it has been a whole new way of approaching performance. I am working on expanding my costume designing network and growing this self-taught skill.
